January
29, 2010: From TheCollegeBaseballBlog.com:
Miami
(Ohio) University baseball head coach Dan Simonds
has announced that former RedHawk George Stegmiller
will serve as the honorary coach for the 2010 season.
The honor is bestowed upon someone who has close ties
with the Miami baseball program and displays the qualities
of a Miami baseball player, such as character, integrity
and leadership, in his life and in society.
The
team will honor Stegmiller toward the end of March
or the beginning of April (barring his deployment
to Afghanistan), as he and his family will be brought
back to Oxford for the ceremony. Stegmiller will throw
out the first pitch of a game to be determined, while
the ceremony will also involve Miamis ROTC and
the team will wear camouflage baseball caps.

Ralph
Schivone,
85, described recently as "the heart and soul
of UA baseball" stepped up as a volunteer UAHS
coach in 1989. Over the course of 20 years, hundreds
of players, six head coaches and hours in the dugout,
Ralph continues to earn the affection and respect
of players, coaches, school officials and parents.
In 2009, he was inducted in to the Central Ohio Baseball
Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
To
honor Ralph's years of service and to recognize the
heartfelt appreciation of the baseball community,
efforts commenced in 2009 to establish the Ralph
Schivone Locker Room inside the UAHS
David Marsalka Baseball Club House.
To
reach our goal, donations are still being accepted
in honor of the Ralph Schivone Locker Room. Please
learn more about Coach Schivone and the Ralph Schivone
Locker Room here.
